Learn More About PosterBase

The poster pictured above is a VERY RARE 1st Printing (Prior to the Show) May 27, 1967 Trips Festival (Bob Masse - And came from his Personal Collection) - There are only perhaps 3 to 5 of these known to exist and they are not in very good shape. Occasionally, a 2nd Print, on Thin Paper, with an Orange Border, (Available AT the Show) will appear for sale, and often sells for between $500.00 & $1000.00 when offered, and just as often, is mistaken for a First Printing. The one pictured above is printed on Thick Paper, and has a Pink Border. Also, the pic in the center is vague in the first print, and is clear in the second print. (Pictured Below) - (Many Rare posters such as this one are pictured in the Database.)

(PosterTrip & PosterBase are a work in progress and this project is the first and only one of it's kind in the world. This project is entirely new, original and unique.)

Posterbase was created out of my personal need to know the current market value of rare and out of print posters. As a part of my interest and research, I have been working on this since about Mid-2002, and while I was creating it, several of my poster collecting friends told me how much they would value a database like the one I was creating.

This idea grew into what I now call Posterbase, a Poster, Handbill, and Misc. Music Memorabilia Price Guide Book. There are literally thousands of images & entries including many posters from the "Art of Rock" book, the Bill Graham and Family Dog Series, Grateful Dead & Phish posters never seen before by most people as well as Original Art, Proofsheets, and Limited Edition Promos. There are many posters and handbills by up and coming artists which are featured in the new book, "The Art of Modern Rock". (Images are only available to view in the FREE Online Supplement, not in the book.)

If a person wants to know the value of a Poster or a Handbill, there are very few ways to determine this. By tracking closing auction prices combined with current retail prices on various websites, one can get a much better idea of the current market value of an item. Below is a sample page for FD-26, the very famous Grateful Dead Skeleton & Roses Poster.

Have you ever wondered just how much to pay for an item or how much to sell it for? Several factors should also be considered. Of course, there is the condition, but conditions vary so much, it helps to have an image to judge the true value of the item. Also, there is the size factor, since the size can give away the truth as to whether or not an item is an original or not. Then there are little factors, like whether or not a seller has good feedback, or if the print number is listed or unlisted in the ad, or whether or not the item was listed in the right category. And sometimes, an item can be listed several times before it sells, therefore it also helps to have a few examples of an item, and each of their selling histories. Also included are "Notes" for each item to highlight any details the seller might have added.

By looking at all the data, one can see the fine differences and determine the reason for varying prices in the marketplace. Over the last couple of years, people have been asking me if I could make this informational resource available. Several issues arose when I considered doing this.

1.) I would be giving away valueable information that has taken me a good deal of time to collect and put together.
2.) It will take me a good deal of time to keep up with this DataBase as a project, to make sure it's always up to date and has new entries added continously.
3.) It will cost money to pay for bandwidth and data transfer for people to view all the images and pages for personal research. --

So, I have decided to publish "PosterBase", the book.

Withe the purchase of PosterBase the book, and you will be allowed full access absolutely FREE, to my personal poster and handbill database which also includes thousands of images of promo posters, programs & original artwork as well. (For "condition" reference purposes only.)

There is NO other DataBase, Book, or record of it's kind in the world like the one I have assembled in PosterBase. There isn't a book that exists that lists the differences in prints of Non-fillmore and Non-avalon posters. There is no book in existence that documents the hundreds of different Grateful Dead posters not listed in the Art of Rock Book or the Art of the Fillmore book. There is no book or record of it's kind in the world that lists the current market prices of large, popular bands such as the Beatle, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Phish, U2, Metallica, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pearl Jam, String Cheese, & all the other collectable bands, or documents the values of hundreds of rock & roll posters most people have never seen before.

Whether you're a fan of older rock music, or progressive newer music you'll most likely find what you're looking for in this DataBase. If you are not satisfied with the book, you can return it within the first 15 days for a full refund.

There are already approx. (5,276) entries to start and over (4,549) images for reference. Hopefully, everyone will enjoy it and get a good deal of value from it.

A quick example of the VALUE being offered : (Personally, I can name 2 different posters I picked up recently that are worth 10 times their cost. 1.) A 1st Print Poster I aquired for $250, actually worth about $1500.00 - $2000.00, and another 2.) A 1st Print I got for $375.00, which is actually worth about $3000.00. In both cases, there are less than 5 known of each poster to exist, and if it were not for my own knowledge combined with the data i've aquired and made available here, I would not have known better, and most likely would have passed up the opportunities.)

(Please NOTE : PosterBase is a work in progress and is always being added to. There are some bands and categories that have not been added yet. Purchaser acknowledges that this is not a complete DataBase and there are no guarantees you will find what you're looking for. If the item or items you are looking for information on are not included, then please advise me to include them. This project is very large and ongoing, and eventually, all items of interest will be included.)
